Good Evening #mydarlings! It's time to learn about another Black Brit of note.  Today we celebrate Olaudah Equiano, also known as Gustavus Vassa. Mr. Equiano was African man who rose from slavery to become an activist, abolitionist, author, merchant, and explorer.  His autobiography helped abolish Great Brittain's involvement in the slave trade.

Olaudah Equiano wrote an autobiography depicting his experience in slavery. It served as one of the first testimonies in the abolition movement.

When I was contacted to record a song for the forcoloredgirls... soundtrack I was beyond honored. The play is such an important piece of literature for women of all ages and races; it was about time it was brought to life on film. Since originally being contacted to be on the soundtrack, I've read the play cover to cover more times than I can remember. Especially with the year I've had! Thank you Shange!

Ntozake Shange is a renowned playwright, poet, and novelist.
