When I was contacted to record a song for the forcoloredgirls... soundtrack I was beyond honored. The play is such an important piece of literature for women of all ages and races; it was about time it was brought to life on film. Since originally being contacted to be on the soundtrack, I've read the play cover to cover more times than I can remember. Especially with the year I've had! Thank you Shange!

Ntozake Shange is a renowned playwright, poet, and novelist. Among her honors and awards are fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the Lila Wallace-Reader's Digest Fund and a Pushcart Prize. Shange's work empowers women to take responsibility for their lives by learning to love themselves and challenge their oppressors. She serves on the faculty in the Department of Drama at the University of Houston and continues to give lectures at various colleges and literary conferences.
